Your mechanic most likely replaced the FIPL (Fuel Injection Pump Lever) those three times in trying to stop harsh shifts. A badly adjusted FIPL will eventually destroy the E4OD. For many years now, the E4OD when shifting from 2nd to 3rd seems to wonder and take a second or two to finally get into 3rd gear. 1st to 2nd is fine and crisp, 3rd to 4th is fine and crisp, just 2nd to third is slow and jerky. Torque converter lockup is fine also.
