WebThe Highland Clearances occurred from around 1750 to 1860. It is estimated around 70,000 people emigrated from the Highlands. The clearances also happened in the Western Isles and the Hebrides. Often, cottages were burned to ensure anybody returned. This was an estimated 2,000 cottages a day.
